Vansina gives first an overview of the evolution of this type of research, points out to the new theoretical questions, analyses the notion of ethnohistory and the role of anthropological methods within the oral history research. He reveals also which sort of effects the results of oral history research may have for the investigated society and in which social fields it might become active.
