ZSOLT SZÍJÁRTÓ "Cultural system" - a concept's metamorphose This paper focuses on the use of the concept "culture" within the social sciences since the 1970s, which has been heavily effected both by the emphasis on methodological reflexivity and the globalisation process world-wide. Within traditional anthropology geographically closed places, communities played always an important role, especially on the basis of cultural differences. From the 1980s on the concept of discourse has gradually replaced the category of "cultural system" as self-reflexivity and the thinking in processes received much more attention than before. The essay tries to invetigate the issue of place in anthropology and cultural studies within this wider framework.
