SZ. BURGER ALICE: LATE ROMAN MONEY CIRCULATION IN SOUTH-PANNONIA / Régészeti Füzetek II/22. (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Budapest, 1981

1. PHASE A

4. CONST ANT IUS II (Magnentius - Decentius - Vetranio) A. D. 363 TO 364 On 18 January 350 CONSTANS was murdered, and from that time onwards CONSTANTIUS II remained the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The historical events of these three years condensed complications dramatically. There was the usurpation of Magnentius in Gaul, and the appearence of Vetranio in Illyricum at the same time, the nomination of Constantius Gallus to be Caesar left their impression on the monetary circulation of our material. In 352 the Emperor finally defeated Magnentius at Mursa, and Vetranio voluntarily retreated. In 350, besides the FEL TEMP REPARATIO reverse types (b) á/Ö and the variant 6/j) (SIS, SIR, THE) of the value of AE2 the type CONCORDIA MILITUM Nr. (7) was in circulation for Constantius II. In our sites only the products of SIR are missing of the above mentioned ones. In the meantime SIS was circulating the coins of the type VIRTUS AUGUSTORUM Nr. (3j) in the value of AE 3 and THE was circulating the type FEL TEMP REPARATIO Nr. for the Emperor. In the same year ROM was issuing money for Magnentius in the value of AE 1/2 : Nr. (l7) and the type Nr. (28) in the value of AE 2/3. SIS /AE 2 - Nr. (7) and @ and THE (AE 2 Nr. (7) and (32) were working for Vetranio. The money circulation of the year can be best demonstrated at Perbál. Besides the finds of Árpás, Kazsok, Márok, Öcsöd, the city of Pécs and the material of its cemetery, Ságvár and the cemeteries of Baranya county should be taken into consideration. In jJJLL only SIS (AE 2 - Nr. (7)) and AQU (AE 1/2 Nr. ) were working for Constantius II. For Magnentius LUG (AE 2 Nr. (fl) and (18)) and AQU (ÁE 1/2 - Nr were producing coins. In 35 1 Perbál continued to lead among the sites. Here special attention should be paid to the material of the city of Pécs and to the coins of the "warrior* s grave" No. 4 of Zengővárkony. Between 3 51-35 2 we may meet only with coins of Magnentius (ROM, AQU - AE 2 Nr. (^9)) and of Decentius (ROM, AQU - AE 2 Nr. (7|) ). For that time the coins of the "warrior's grave" No. 37 , of Majs offer important information besides the coins of Perbál. In the years 352-35 3 the coin of Decentius (TRE AE 2 - Nr. (Í3) ) occurred at Perbál. A.D. 350 AE 1/2 AE 2/3 AE 2 AE 3 A. D. 351 ROM Magn ROM Magn SIS THE THE THE SIS CS, V Cs, V Cs Cs © @ © © © @ © AE 2 ARE Magn SIS CS, (7) C.G. C. G.
