53. 55. THOMAS BENEDICT RICHTER (1687-1722) Merchant of Leipzig. Son of Thomas Richter and Johanna Magdalena Welsch. THEODOR OERTEL (1659-1734) Son of the Berlin merchant Lorentz Oertel. After studies in Zwickau from 1673, he moved to Leipzig in 1681, where he founded a company in 1689. He was granted civic rights in 1692, became a member of the town council in 1719, and a councillor of architectural matters from 1730. He was prefect of the Neue Kirche in Leipzig from 1729. PETER HOHMANN VON HOHENTHAL (1663-1732) Merchant in Leipzig and son of Peter Hohmann, muni­cipal councillor of Zennern (1625-1688) and Maria Breitschuh (fl732). He settled in Leipzig in 1674, was granted civic rights in 1694, and launched his business in 1700. The council college of Leipzig elected him in charge of the building matters of the town in 1715. He ordered some of the major constructions in early 18 th­century Leipzig and owned several palaces in town. He acquired the greatest property within the family, ennobled by Charles VI in 1717 with the title von Hohenthal. 56.
