ACCESSION LIST OF THE COLLECTIONS IN THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL GALLERY 1991-1996

COLLECTION OF THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES COLLECTION OF PAINTING 1991 Altogether 23 items were added, of which 10 were transferred from the National Museum, 8 were gifts, 1 exchanged, 4 bought. The most important works include: Sándor Wagner: Cart and seven in Debrecen, c. 1880, oil on canvas, 100.5 x 200 cm. Inv.no.: 91.18. Seven works are included in the collection by the painter, all prior to 1880. The picture at issue indicates a stylistic change. From 1874, the painter withdrew from romanticism and came closer to plein air, in this picture to naturalism. Dezső Komis s : View in Szentendre. 1933, oil on canvas, 35.3 x 50.3 cm. Inv.no.: 91.23; A mere six works from the artist's period prior to 1945 can be found in our department. The purchased work represents the painter's earliest, constructivist period. Sándor Basilides: Fishermen. 1943, oil on canvas, 120.5 x 150.4 cm. Inv.no.: 91.17. There were merely 5 works by the artist in the collection; the purchased work is a good example of the painter's neo-classicist style. 1992 The accruement was 14 items, 7 of them gifts, 7 purchases. The main works: János Donath: Orpheus in Hades. 1819; oil on canvas, 150 x 135 cm. Inv.no.: 92.12. The picture represents one of the most typical genres of neo-classicism, the mythological theme. Earlier it was believed lost. Mihály Kovács: Sleeping child. 1850; oil on canvas, 49 x 60 cm. Inv.no.: 92.9. Jenő Paizs Goebel: Saint Sebastian (Self-portrait). 1927; oil on canvas, 100 x 81 cm.
