The genesis of the 3rd agrarian-historical document collection, the main periods of its enrichment and its historical documentary value RÓZSA TAKÁTS The study presents a collection of 48,565 documents belonging to 9,477 inventory numbers. The corpus of this database unit also dates from the Millenary Exhibition and collecting movement at the time of the establishment of the museum. The study concentrates on today's place of the earliest documents and the lengthier and more valuable document series of the collection. The aim of the museum was to create a „complex panorama" presenting the actual state of agriculture for a long time, but it was considered important already at the beginning to collect the historical documents, too. Especially the „Economyhistorical Department" operating from 1897 to 1934 in a separate room showed the past therefore the most documents from earlier times were put here. This exhibition was enriched by donating and buying documents thus it can be considered to be the basis of the collection in question. Based on the reviews still in existence the structure of the exhibition and the origin of its material can be reconstructed. The archive of the museum contains interesting data concerning the historical documents which got here later; it preserved the circular letters of the collecting actions which were sent through the Agricultural Ministry as a calling circular to the agricultural special education-, research- and scientific institutes, to the economical societies, the ecclesiastical authorities and the county- and townmunicipalities. The activity and helpfulness must be admired which the institutes and authorities mentioned above and also individual farmers and scientific experts gave evidence of, so that the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture could be enriched and its standard could be raised.
