tively. They would be at the governments disposal with advice, to make conciliation of industrial and national interests possible. Satisfactory training of chemists should be provided for systematically. It should assure equality of rank for those that had taken their degrees in Hungary with those that had done so abroad, in particular in Germany. Âgoston Kohner's comprehensive address contained, beside the above, all the ideas indicated in the statutes adopted later, as objectives of the Association. 3 The statutes then adopted were modified 1910, and even following discontinuance and re-organization in 1919 the Association continued to work according to these statutes till World War II. 4 According to the statutes: "The aim of the Association is representing the economic interests of the chemical branches of Hungarian industry in every respect. In order to reach this goal, a/ the Association will discuss all the matters of the chemical branches of Hungarian industry, which are of common interest and affect the development of these branches in the fields of customs and traffic matters, tariffs, commerce, patent matters and protection of industrial property, government contracts, payment of taxes and social policy or (questions emerging) owing to any decision, disposition or proposal of the parliament or the government; b/ submitting its resolutions adopted with the above purposes to the parliament, the government and the public, it will make efforts so that the interests of the Hungarian chemical industry materialize as much as possible with respect to these resolutions. In order to achieve this, it will co-operate, to the necessary extent, with other bodies and associations qualified for the representation of domestic economic interests, will support their initiatives or will ask for their supporting its own initiatives; c/ upon invitation by the government, authorities or competent economic bodies, it will give advisory opinion in questions belonging to its sphere of activity; d/ it will inform the government or the competent authority as well as the public opinion about any offence of public interest that should occur in daily life to its members, and will take steps to remedy them; el it will pave the way, if possible, for the spreading of important inventions and technological innovations emerging amidst the chemical branches of industry."
