The superscriptions of the smaller part of the maps listed in the catalogue are in handwriting, but on the majority of the maps are printed or reproduced superscriptions. The oldest map was prepared in 1550, the latest one in 1888. The Author compiled the catalogue in chronological oredcr and discloses the inventory number, the (original) title of the map, the name of the person who prepared the map, the place and date of the prepearing and furthermore the dimensions of the map. Dr. László Eperjesi - Dr. Mihály Krámli: The Correspondence Between Lajos Kossuth And The Bavarian Railway Building Engineer Franz Kreuter In Connection With The Vukovár-Fiume Railway Line. The free port-town Fiume, being the family possession of the Habsburgs, has been attached to Hungary by Maria Theresa under public law as a separate body belonging to the Hungarian crown. This decision of economic policy character intended to further the Hungarian grain export and maritime foreign trade. The boom of the foreign trade through Fiume and its harbour had two great obstacles in the decades before the revolution in 1848. Fiume had no protected harbour adequate for receiving large ships and between the Hungarian grain growing regions and the seacost was the almost impassable Karst. From the 1820s a great number of proposals and plans appeared concerning the improvement of traffic. The necessity of railway construction was declared in the Act XXV of 1836. Kossuth's ideas about the railway line Vukovár-Fiume were developed between 1842 and the autumn 1843. In their study the Authors follow Kossuth's efforts in the Hungarian Parliament and in the publick life in interest to construct the Fiume railway line. On the basis of their researches they publish the Hungarian translations of the 15 letteres written by Kossuth to the Bavarian railway building engineer Franz Kreuter and the 10 reply letters received from Kreuter. These translations are published in our year-book at the first time. Dr. Erzsébet Molnàn The Use Of Two-wheel Vehicles Hauled By Brute Strength Or By Manpower In Hungary. In the introduction of her study the Author declares that the etnographical literature is dealing with the development, function and spreading of the two-wheel vehicles, in respect of traffic history there is no bibliography. The two-wheel vehicles were used basically for carrying passengers and freight. For their designation a number of words came into usage in the Hungarian language. The designation and field of application of the various types varied according to the various regions of the country. In the further part of her study the Author demonstrates the barrow and the tumbril. A separate chapter deals with the carters and their place in the society. The two-wheel cars were drawn by horses, mules, donkeys, or rarely by buffalos. In the chapter "Production" the Author demonstrates the building of the two-wheel vehicles. Dr. Erzsébet Molnár: The Prominents Of The Hungarian Transport On Medals And Plaquettes. In the Medal Cabinet of the Transport Museum there is a significant collection of those persons, who achieved outstanding results in development of transport during our history. The medal art is a challenge for the artist, since the portrait and life-work of the persons have to be demonstrated on a small surface and occasionally even place has to be left free for a text. In the introduction of her study the Author mentions the artistical and implementing expectations concerning medals and furthermore the names of the well-known artists. In the further part of her study the Author arranged the medals showing the prominents of transport in a chronological order, mentioning the activity of the personality concerning transport and the artist's name who made the medal. 305
