III. RÉSZ • A Közlekedési Múzeum gyűjteményeiből 403 - Rövid tartalmi összefoglaló (német, angol, francia, orosz) 469

Summary Preliminary remarks to the 9 th Annual of the Museum of Transport. The first Annual was published in 1971. It summarized the history of the Museum since its foundation in 1896, and also the development and its results. After that, the museum published its Annual in similar construction and form in every two or three years (in 1974, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987). This 9th Annual can be published only in 1994, due to the difficulties in our economic life. As an organic continuation of the previous eight Annuals it shows the results of the research and development during the past five years. During the five years, which the ninth Annual covers, there were changes in the top leadership of the Museum, too. István Veress, who had been the director general of the Museum, retired on November 30 th , 1990. The Minister of Transport, Telecommunication and Hydrology appointed, by competition, industrial energineer and economist, head of the Technical Major Department of the Ministry, András Katona, director general of the Museum. As a result of the change in the top post, the introductory studies in our present Annual deal separately with the events between 1988-1989 and between 1990-1992. István Veress gives an account of the life of the Museum under the title: "The Work of the Museum of Transport in 1988-1989" in the first introductory study. The researchers of the Museum managed to take part in open national competitions, in foundation research programmes and these were important contributions to the development of the scientific work. The reults of the research work were demonstrated continuously in permanent exhibitions. The author grives information of the exhibition activity of the Museum and also of the results in collection development, in public education and in international relations. Director general András Katona sums up the main tasks and goals of the Museum, describes the conceptual changes and the most important changes in museum work in the second introductory study. Then he gives a survey of "The Work of the Museum of Transport in 1990-1992". The author describes that the research workers of the Museum keep on making use of the possibilities offered by research competitions and foundations. Thus, a study repository could be established in Tatai street. The modernization of the computer system facilitated the continuous computerized registration of the collections, as part of the scientific work. The number of seasonal exhibitions grew significantly and so did the international exhange of exhibitions. The exhibitions were arranged and special attention was paid to the scientific and aesthetical level of the exhibitions. It was an outstanding scientific task to do research in the transport activity of count István Széchenyi on the occasion of the 200 th anniversary of his birth. The results of the research were elaborated, evaluated and displayed. 482
