the researches have been published by the professional and educational articles of the Museum. The Museum became the single institution of national authority concerning the transport history researches. Our long range conceptions include the development of the "new museum model", the organisation of information and education of the publik on a high level with the help of up-to-date publik education work. Concerning the area of methodology the object is the development of the computer aided picture and registration system of the collections. It would not be fair to omit the exhibitions from the assessment of the scientific work of the Museum during the hundred years of its existence, since the scenarios of the exhibitions are important results of the research activity. The demand of essential change of the permanent exhibitions has come to the front more and more. Accordingly the permanent exhibitions demonstrating the railway history and the motor vehicle transport in the old building have been reorganised in 1995-1996. Concerning the exhibition technique, following the international fashion of the end of the century, beside the interiors of "subject-pictures and life situations" and the tableaus-storers a lot of interactive solutions can be seen. Mrs. Kovácsy, Dr. Ágnes Medveczki: "Commemoration of the Millenium Transport Exhibition". The Author informs about an interesting jubelee exhibition. The exhibition "Hundred years ago and today" has been arranged in the spirit of the 100-years anniversary of the establishment of the museum, and of the millecentanary. The Organisators made effort to select those models, original objects, maps and paintings remaining from the exhibition in 1896, which were the most characteristic remembrances. We can learn from the paper about the cautiously and fullness by which the contemporary companies and institutions demonstrated the history of development of the various transport branches applying models, maps, industrial drawings and other documents. Since a lot of objective and archival material has been destroyed and the area of the exhibition is limited, too, it is obvious that this exhibition could provide only a narrow cross-section of the millenieum exhibition. The paper is completed by two supplements. Supplement 1 contains the list of objects demonstrated in the historical part of the exhibitions "Hundred years ago and today," supplement 2 recount the companies and persons rewarded on the occassion of the millenium exhibition. Dr.István Berta - János Gáspár: "For the Publick Education". The Authors review the time période between the middle of the 19th century till World War I, which can be regarded, as the golden age of the Hungarian museums. Beside the Transport Museum the Museum of Applied Arts, the Agriculture Museum, the Art Galery, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Technology and Industry, the Oriental Museum and several other museums in provincial towns have been established. Already the first director, Kajetán BANOVITS has drawn up the task of the Museum concerning the visitors. He split up the visitors according to their age, to their interest and to their knowledge and he dealt with them on that basis. In his opinion the Museum has to serve the public education. The lack of illumination and heating was disadvantageous for the fréquentation of the Museum, having the result that the Museum could be visited from the spring till the autumn only. Following World War II the attention of the publick was drawn to the sad fait of the Museum by organising exhibitions and public educational programs. Conequently decision was made to rebuild the Museum. The comprehensive public education activity had commenced, on its results it is reported by the Authors in the paper. 382
