Concerning the situation of stores the Author notices that the placing and protection of the material is adequate. Jolán Barkóczi - István Tisza "The Scientific Library of the Transport Museum". The origin of the Library of the Transport Museum goes back to the time, when the Museum was established. The institution was already in 1899 - by the time of the opening - in possession of a smaller library collection. Several of its volumes in de luxe binding had been put on show already at the opening exhibition. After the devastations of World War II the reorganisation of the library was started in 1958, at the same time, when the research activities concerning transport history were commenced. The target was the extablishment of a collection of books and periodicals which complements the archival collections and object collections of the Museum. In the following part of the paper the Authors inform on the distribution, the points of view of the collecting, the system of the listing and on the situation of stores. To satisfy the readers' demands a reference department was established in 1989. Concluding the paper the Authors cover several more significant book exhibitions, where they had the chance to put on show the most precious pices of the library of the Museum. Dr.Valéria Czene: "Application of Personal Computer for Library Activities." In 1990 the library of the Museum had a chance to take part in the research competition "Accomplishment of the uniform European transport information model system". The goals of this research competition were the accomplishment of the uniform transport information system, the computer aided preparation of a periodical monitoring the professional literature of transport, and the mechanical charging in the library. After being successful at the competition the Museum commenced the organisation of the system and the installation of the machines. Following the further development of the computer aided system and the establishment of the uniform system the direct contact between the libraries of the transport research institutes became a reality. In the following part of the paper the Author informs about the phases of the computer aided processing. Part III The Scientific and Public Education Activities of the Transport Museum Mrs.Kóczián, dr.Erzsébet Szentpéteri: "Scientific Work of the Transport Museum." By the time of establishment of the Transport Museum and during the following five decades the sterss was laid upon the demonstration of the collections. The scientific research and elaboration activités could start after World War II, following the reopening of the Museum. The lists prepared in the first five decades of the history of the Museum were a great help for the later research work. The basic aim of the firts fifty years had been the preservation, but the major tasks of the following fifty years were the reconstruction and the organisation of scientific work. By the end of the 1950s railway history researches were commenced and studies were prepared. The research activities were supported by research institutes, too. According to the Department order issued in 1964 the laying of the basis of research and elaboration work represents one of the main tasks of the museum. Taking into consideration the results achieved the Academy of Sciences of Hungary declared the Museum in 1981 to a national research institute. The results of 381
