Brief Summary of the Content Preliminary Publications to the 10th Annual of the Transport Museum The first Annual of the Transport Museum was published in 1971 honouring the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Museum. This annual summarized those activities, developments and events of the Museum, which have been achieved from the millenary exhibition in 1896 till 1971. Dr. György Csanádi, academian, Minister of Transport and Communication wrote in the preface of the first Annual as follows: "This first Annual of the Museum, reaching the reader in the year of the 75 th anniversary is a card. It is a card of a national institution, which pre serv s faithfully the valuable traditions of its three quarter century long past, but which is much more today than the old Museum. It does not look only after a rich and developing museum material, it does not carry out an extensive activity of popular education only, but it became the home of creative scientific and developing work. In my opinion the papers and publications of this volume prove all these clearly". In the name of the transport workers and of our society growing richer in science and technical culture I compliment with high esteem the Transport Museum celebrating its jubilee. I wish that while nearing the lOOst anniversary the Museum should grow richer, stronger and more beatiful with the same dynamism, for the plesure of all of us, ...for the benefit of the whole society". In the present preface Dr.

Károly Lotz Minister of Transport Communication and Water Management writes as follows. "The Transport Museum established in 1896 renders now a tribute to the predecessors by an Annual presenting the best documents of its history, summarizing the results of work and demonstrating the real treasures in writing and pictures for the readers. 100 years is a great time in the life of the Institution being an occasion for festivities and festive publications, but in the same time for introspection, too. I am convinced that the Museum has its reasons to be pride, as it is proved by the Annual, due to its capability to be always on the move and to be able to renew itself. In Central-Europe here is the largest transport collection, but it maybe more important than the size that the Museum became the centre of the Hungarian researches concerning transport history. " As a result of the vocation and zeal of the staff the amount of the collection has increased continuously. The permanent exhibitions, as well as the aesthetic sesonal exhibitions of growing number attract hundreds of thousands of visitors into the Museum. All those results are published in our Annual published in every second or third year (1974, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1985, 1987 and 1994). The publication of the present, 10th Annual has a special importance because of two reasons. In this year we celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the foundation of Hungary and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Transport Museum.
