HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM — MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - The International Conference held on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Foundation of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts

On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Art we could hold (on June 10—13th 1969) an International Conference, sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Institute of Cultural Relations, on the following subjects: 1) The foundation and development of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts, 2) The muscology of the art of Asia (The National Museums of the Asiatic countries — The Asiatic collections of the large complex museums — The special Asiatic or Eeastem Asiatic Museums), 3) The art of Asia (The art of an Asiatic country, or a subcontinent — Recent excavations or researches). This Conference was attended by the following guests: Dr. Zojia Alber, Head of the Oriental Department of the National Museum, Krakow, I. Doro­feiev, Director of the Museum of Oriental Peoples' Culture, Moscow, Yo Dorz­suren, Director of the Central Museum, Ulan Bator, Dr. Herbert Fux, Head of the Oriental Department of the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Dr. Bo Gyllenswärd, Director of the Eastern Asiatic Museum, Stockholm, Dr. Lubor Hájek, Director of the Oriental Collection of the National Gallery, Prague, Prof. Dr. G. R. Meyer, Director-General of the State-Museums and Director of the Museum of Western Asiatic Antiquity, Berlin, P. F. Schneeberger, Director of the Collection Baur, Genève, C. Sivaramamurti, former Director-General, now Adviser of the National Museum, New-Delhi, Edmund de Unger, President of the Islamic Art Circle, London. From the Hungarian side the Conference was attended by the staff mem­bers of the Museum of Applied Arts and the Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts and also by Dr. Tibor Bodrogi, Director-General of the Museum of Eth­nology, Dr. Barna Csongor, Professor of the Loránd Eötvös University, Dr. Géza Fehér jr., Keeper of the Hungarian National Museum, Dr. Vilmos Wessetzky, Head of the Egyptian Department of the Museum of Fine Arts. On the Inaugural Meeting, the participants were welcomed by János Mol­nár, Vice-Minister of Cultural Affairs, In his speech, he underlined the impor­tance of the meeting of museum-specialists of different countries. The Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts was created by a Hungarian revolution and it is a symbol of the relations between a revolution and arts and scientific researches. That is why, this jubilee has such meaning for all Hungarian mu­seums. To this he added : "Our Government values highly the indépendant work
