The size of the vase is unusual also, but primarily a larger surface is for the advantage of the colour scheme of cloisonné. It seems to me, that because of this the motifs of this vase are not very significant, that is, a series of lotus scroll with simple stem with white, blue, yellow, brick-red and pale green colours on a turquoise-blue background. The enamels showing the same unevenness, the result of the firing, and the same hardness, amounting almost to rigidity of a crystalline character shown on the colour plate A (in linear magnification) in his book, Chinese and Japanese Cloisonné Enamels.
