HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM - MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Horváth, Tibor: Reports on the Activities of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts in 1965-1966
TIBOR HORVÁTH REPORTS ON THE ACTIVITIES OF i THE FERENC HOPP MUSEUM OF EASTERN ASIATIC ARTS IN 1965-1966 1965 Since the renovation of the building of the Hopp Museum (VI. Népköztársaság útja 103) was terminated in the beginning of the summer, we were able to return there with our office which had been put up temporarily in our other building, in the China Museum (VI. Gorkij fasor 12). For the reinstallation of our library, we had to wait until December when the new bookcases were delivered. These removals resulted in emptying the exhibition rooms of the China Museum where, before installing again the Arts of Old and New China, we could start with the modernization of the lighting installations and with the necessary inside renovations. Meanwhile in the Hopp Museum we have opened our XLIII. exhibition, Eastern Asiatic Silks, Lacquer and Porcelain from the 11th century to the Present Day (figs. 1-2) on October 9 th . Dr. Frigyes Pogány, professor of the Technical University and director general of the Academy of Applied Arts, kindly consented to make an opening lecture on this occasion. For the exhibition, the material was selected and displayed by Péter Polonyi (silks), László Ferenczy (lacquer) and Eva Cseh (porcelain). A catalogue was also written by them, illustrated with 24 figures and supplemented with a short English résumé. This catalogue was edited by Tibor Horváth. Our traveling exhibition visited two museums. In the Károly Ferenczy Museum at Szentendre we had the exhibition Eastern Asiatic Bronzes, Woodblock-Prints and the Art of Tunhuang from April 25 th until June 15 th . The selection of the exhibits was also done by Eva Cseh, László Ferenczy and Péter Polonyi and installed by László Ferenczy and Eva Cseh. The Art of Tunhuang was illustrated with large sized photographs donated to the Museum by the Institute of Cultural Relations, Peking, and the woodblock-printed colour reproductions of the wall-paintings were made at the studio of Yung Pao Chai. With the exception of this part- because of the limited space allowed therewe then took this exhibition to the Savaria Museum at Szombathely. This time the exhibition was put up by László Ferenczy and Péter Polonyi. It was opened on October 2nd with an introductory lecture by Tibor Horváth and it was kept open until November 15 th . With this exhibition and with the other one, the Eastern Asiatic Silks, Lacquer and Porcelain from the 11th century to the Present Day, we were participating in "The Month of Museums" organized by the Department of Museums of the Ministry of Culture. 9 Iparművészeti 129
