origin. This last piece and also the bridles with bits allow the dating of the Hun cemetery along the Selbe river to the first century A. D. Tibor Horváth and N. Ser-Odzhav reported on the results of their excavations in the Institute for Historical Research of the Mongolian Academy Commission on May 18. On May 16, Tibor Horváth gave a lecture in the same Institute on the importance of the art history research. Besides these, he visited the Central Museum of the capital several times, studying mostly those pieces of the Noin-TJla finds which are kept there. He also visited the store-room of the archaeological laboratory of the University and lama monasteries, one still active (Gandandzu) and the others converted into museums. A detailed report on the Mongolian journey was published in the Bulletin of Section II of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, No. 1. 1962, pp. 137—143. To continue this journey, Tibor Horváth was aided by the Institute of Cultural Relations to spend a month in Viet-Nam, from May 23 to June 22. While going to Viet-Nam and on the return trip he had to wait for an airplane connection in Peking. He thus found an opportunity to study all the exhibitions of the Palace Museum and to get acquainted with the new Historical Museum opened in the preceding year. The exhibition called „Nanking Painters Touring the Country", held during his stay in the capital, enabled him to see of the modern artistic endeavours as well. Tibor Horváth regarded his role in selecting the exchange material as one of the most important items of his programme in Viet-Nam. As we mentioned before, the utmost consideration on the part of the Viet-Namese made the selection in the store-rooms of the Hanoi Historical Museum possible. Since he previously visited the exhibitions, this opportunity enabled him to become thoroughly acquainted with the entire collected material. He promoted relations between Hungarian and Viet-Namese museums by visiting and studying other collections, such as the Museum of War and that of the Revolution in Hanoi, the regional Museum of Natural History and of the Revolution at Haiphong, and by conferring with the directors of these institutions. By conveying their methods and experiences Hungarian museums may help those of Viet-Nam considerably. On request Tibor Horváth gave a lecture on the „Problems of Museology and the Role of a Museum of Art" in the large lecture-room of the Museum of the Revolution, before hundreds of museumworkers.
