He paid a call to the studios Tran Van Can and Phan Van Dong, professors of painting. During his tour through the country he met the students of the College of Fine Arts making sketches in the Pump Factory at Haiphong and in the village of Kienan. In Hanoi he saw the modern paintings owned by the Artists' Union; visited the workshops of silk embroiderers, carpet weavers and ivory carvers. On June 14 he spent an entire day lecturing before the staff of teachers of the School of Applied Arts on Eastern Asiatic Arts. From Hanoi he arrived in Moscow via Peking. On June 25 and 26 he visited the Museum of Archangelskoye, 40 km from the capital, and the Renato Guttuso exhibition in the Pushkin Museum. He extended his trip to Leningrad from June 26 to July 4, at the time of the white nights.
