HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM - MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Major, Gyula: Memorial Exhibition of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts: The Art of Asia
Fig. 10. Chinese musical instruments The art of Old China was illustrated by archaeological bronze objects of the Chou and Han ages, by some prominent bronze vessels of the Sung-, Ming- and Ch'ing-periods, by cloisonnée works of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, most of them not exhibited before. The collection of jades and semi-precious stones was also one of the richest. The portion allotted to the industrial art of modern China has proved the fact that this art, inspired by the noble ancient traditions, liberated from the decadence and insipidness of the last century, entered a new creative period, representing in fact a new renaissance in Chinese art. Unfortunately the splendid gift given by China the Hungarian people recently acquired by our museum only this year could not figure in this exhibition. THE ART OF TIBET Presented as a supplement to the Chinese exhibition, the material illustrating the art of Tibet represents in fact much more. The foundation of the Tibetan material of our Museum we have to thank Imre Schwaiger. Nevertheless it has grown considerably since 1945 through the accession of the Tibetan collection of the Ethnographical Museum. A most interesting part of this section is the present of the then Panchen Lama to his Hungarian visitors who made a trip by car in his country in 1956. The collection now forms a part of the Ferenc Hopp Museum. The art of Old Tibet is illustrated mostly by bronze statuettes of deities, pictures, temple-banners and books illustrated by wood-cuts. The new art of Tibet is shown the public by a collection consisting of carpets, jewelries and ceramics, all the gifts of the Panchen Lama.
