HOLLÓ JÓZSEF: Lectori salutem

It is already the third volume of our museum's yearbook that has been published in the third millennium. The success of the previous volumes proves that there has been a steady interest for our military past. It has been established that the analysis of museum objects as sources provides many opportunities for comprehensive approach. As for the topics, this present volume follows the 'ones of the last century', i.e. the 20th century, as it deals with the busy everyday life of the museum. It gives an insight into the collections' enrichment in recent years, the disclosure and comparative analysis of the collection material, which requires the cooperation of several braches of science in certain cases. It presents the everyday work of the restorers, as well as undertakes the publication of complementary data in several fields, contributing to the perfection of the knowledge that has already been established in public opinion. It also discusses the effects on the public of everyday war memorabilia that are not of unique value by their material character. The Military History Museum, a national public collection maintained by the Ministry of Defence, is one of the most frequented special collections in the country. This attendance requires the completion of new exhibitions from year to year, and the outstanding competence and the engrossed research of the experts that work here. Obviously, this activity is not self-contained or isolated. Therefore, I have the pleasure to salute those studies of the volume that were written by historians and archivists, and give evidence of the interdisciplinary nature of researching military history memorabilia.
