Feltárások a vízivárosi castellumtól északra (Budapest, 11. ker., Ganz utca 12-14,, llrsz.: 13572/6) Excavations north of the Víziváros castellum (Budapest 11, 12-14 Ganz Street, Ln: 13572/6) Az építést megelőző feltárást a Glotech Kft. megbízásából végeztük. Az első ütemben, 2003. április 14-23. között, az újkori rétegek eltávolítása történt meg, mintegy 1,5 méter mélységig, gépi erővel. Mivel az előzetes tárgyalások elhúzódtak, a második ütemet - a régészeti feltárást — csak június 18-án tudtuk megkezdeni. (1. kép) A 8-10 hónapra tervezett munkák mielőbbi befejezése érdekében két műszakos munkavégzésre kényszerültünk október 15. és december 12. között. A beruházó által előrehozott határidő betartása így is csak azért volt lehetséges, mert a területen több újkori pince is napvilágra került. Ezek betöltésének gépi eltávolítása meggyorsította a feltárást. A területen a legmélyebb réteg, melyből objektumok indultak, átlagosan 4,5 méter mélységben volt. Egy-egy objektum alja a mai felszíntől nem egyszer 6-7 méterre volt. A terület a középkorban Buda város Szentpétermártír külvárosának peremén helyezkedett el, közvetlenül a Váralját körítő városfal szomszédságában. Magáról a telekről közelebbi információval nem rendelkezünk. A terület a feltárás megkezdésekor üresen állt. Korábban a Ganz gyár üzemeinek elhelyezésére szolgált. A telket fedő feltöltés felső, mintegy másfél métere újkori eredetű volt. Ebbe a feltöltésbe épültek Excavations preceding construction work were carried out at the commission of the Glotech Kft. The modern layers were removed mechanically down to a depth of about 1.5 m in the first phase of work (April 14-23, 2003). As the preliminary negotiations were protracted, the second phase, the archaeological excavations, could begin only on the 18

th of June (Fig. 1). In order to finish the operations, planned to last 8-10 month, on time we were compelled to work in two shifts between October 15 and December 12. Even so, the only reason we were able respect the deadline the investor demanded was that a number of modern cellars were discovered in the area. The mechanic removal of their fill accelerated the pace of the excavations. The lowest layer, where features first appeared, lay at a depth of 4.5 m on average. The depth of the features extended down to depths of up to 6 or 7 m. The territory was situated at the very edge of the settlement of Szentpétermártír which lay on outskirts of the medieval town of Buda, next to the town wall enclosing the Váralja (castle foot). We had no information on the lot itself. The territory was vacant at the start of the excavations. Formerly, workshops for the Ganz factory stood here.
