A középpillér-pár helyett, a korábbi elképzelésekkel és rekonstrukciókkal szemben, csak a kapuzat hátsó falsíkjában tártunk fel egyet. A kapuzat kereszttengelyében nem került elő párja. Ezzel a ténnyel módosul a kapurekonstrukciós elképzelésünk is. A kapuszárny ezek szerint a kapuzat hátexcavation of the surface left on the southern side of the modern cellar, which was dug into the northern gateway of the eastern gate (Fig. 3.) in trenches III and IV in square V14. (KOCSIS 1998, 84-85.; KOCSIS 2000, 94.) On the strip of land left free parallel to the southern wall of the modern cellar, a relatively intact stratigraphie sequence seems to have been preserved along with the stratigraphy of the northern gateway of the gate. In this section, the central pillar of the double gate, carved from a single piece, was found on the longitudinal axis of the gate. It measured 130 x 108 cm. (Fig. 4.) Its surface preserved the imprints of small ashlars (80 x 60 cm and 60 x 50 cm) in the mortar. Instead of the pair of central pillars suggested in earlier hypotheses and reconstructions, only one was unearthed in the back wall face of the gate. We could not find its pair in the cross axis of the gate. This has modified the reconstruction theory of the gate. Accordingly, the wing of the gate was placed close to the back wall of the gate. During the excavations we reached the stone slab pavement of the via principalis, which ended at the cross-axis of the gate.
