CSEPREGI MÁRTA Participiális jelzős szerkezetek két hanti nyelvjárásban í In this study I compare the structures of attributive participial constructions in a northern and an eastern Khanty dialect. The comparison spans four areas: the marking of voice and of agents of non-finite verbs, the word order in phrases with non-finite verbs, and relative clauses. The corpus is based on a list of Northern Khanty (primarily Kazym) sentences and their corresponding translations into the Surgut dialect. The Northern Khanty sentences are from Elena Kovgan and Elena Skribnik’s joint research (1986 and 1991). The sentences were translated into Surgut by native speaker Ludmila Kayukova. 1) Northern and eastern dialects differ in the structure of their attributive phrases; in northern dialects, the agent of the non-finite verb is marked on the noun the attributive phrase modifies, while in eastern dialects it is marked on the non-finite verb itself Kaz. та каШт уйл-ет Surg. ка1элт-ат кил lSG catch-PTC.PST fish-1SG catch-PTC.PST-lSG fish ’the fish that I caught’ The study shows that the Surgut dialect has examples of both structures, each of which conveys a different meaning. 2) Khanty does not morphologically distinguish the active and passive voices. The agent of the non-finite verb can therefore take the nominative case, as do subjects of active finite verbs, and it can take the locative case, as do agents of passive verbs.
