We felt unavoidable to include somé methodological and administrative references in this publication as in their absence the results could hardly be interpreted. The methodological chapter makes reference to the administrative and organisational aspects of the region and, besides, it includes the following main parts: - Content, organisation and sources of the 1880-1941 population censuses - Population and nationalities of the Subcarpathia, 1880-1941 - Population and nationality structure of the administrative areas, 1880-1941 I would like to express our special thanks to dr. Dezső Dányi for his valuable scientific contribution to the compilation of the chapter on Methodological remarks and to the analyses presented in this publication.
