BEVEZETŐ

INTRODUCTION The results of the 1996 microcensus are published in a series of volumes by the Central Statistical Office. The first volume of the series is the publication entitled "Population and Housing Characteristics", which summarizes the most important results of the survey. The volumes focusing on various specific topics, are published subsequently. The present volume provides detailed information on the development of employment of active earners according to status in employment and type of employer. Further publications related to employment in the series presenting the results of the 1996 microcensus will focus on the development of the structure of employment, condition ofthe unemployed, data of daily commuters. Accordingly, the publication concentrates on the data of active earners referring to employment in the public sector and in the priváté sector. Information are presented from the point of view of the family, besides of the individual. We divided information concerning counties into groups by regions, and information relating individual regions has been presented broken down by type of locality. We used the area development statistical division of regions recommended by experts. A narrowed version of the concepts used is published in the present volume, while the whole rangé of the concepts and explanations can be found in the appropriate chapter of the volume "Population and Housing Characteristics". The most important findings of the survey are as follows: — The majority of the active earners — in spite of the increase in the number and proportion of own-account workers — still belong to the employees (83 percent). 43 percent of the employees are occupied at state-owned, 33 percent at privately owned, 5 percent at co-operative-owned and 16 percent at mixed-owned employer. — 42 percent of males working as employee were occupied at co-operative-owned and privately owned employer, and 35 percent of them worked at state-owned employer. On the contrary, in the females' case the proportion of those occupied at co-operative­owned and privately owned employer was 33 percent, and of those employed in the public sector was 51 percent. — The sum proportion of own-account workers and members of partnerships within active earner males was much higher (18%) than among females (11%). These active earners working as owner had bigger part among middle-generation (30-49 year-old) in comparison to the younger and older age groups. — As a result of the transformation of ownership conditions the structure of the pubiic and priváté sector occupying employees according to industry has changed.
