1990 POPULATION CENSUS Detailed data based on a 2 per cent representative sample (1992)

V. EXPLANATION OF CONCEPTS

If the data series "of 1,2,3-X rooms" and "of 1,2,3,4-X rooms" result from such aggregations, this is pointed out in the title of the table as "aggregated number of rooms". (In the titles of the tables presenting the above groupings "number of rooms" was indicated. At the earlier population censuses such data were presented as "size group of dwelling". The change doesn't mean any difference in the content.) Tables 2.3.3, 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 present the households using the dwelling by the number of rooms of the dwelling combining the grouping by rooms and half-rooms with the totál number of rooms. E.g. households living in two-room dwellings (according to the ranking by rooms and half-rooms) are divided into households having two-room and, respectively, three-room dwellings. In the former case this is a dwelling of two rooms, in the latter a dwelling of one room and two half-rooms. By floor-space — The ranking by the floor-space of the dwellings, was performed on the basis of the size of the ? totál floor-space of all the places belonging to the dwelling, expressed in m . — The grouping by the floor-space of the rooms takes into account only the totál floor-space of the ? rooms, alsó expressed in m . When establishing the floor-space, that of dividing walls and of structural elements were left out of consideration. On the other hand, the floor-space of wardrobes and kitchen equipment are encluded in the floor-spaces of the respective places. THE PLACES OF THE DWELLING Rooms are places provided with direct natural light and ventilation (with doors, windows), of a 2 floor-space of at least 4 m , serving for sleeping or living during the day (bedroom, children's room, dining-room etc.). The hall and the eating-place having alsó a window, as well as the places of room character used as consultation rooms, waiting-rooms, offices etc. alsó figure among the rooms. 2 The living-roo« is a room of a floor-space over 12 m . 2 2 The half-roo* is a room of a floor-space which is over 6 m but not more than 12 m . 2 2 The snall roon is a room of a floor-space which is of at least 4 m but not more than 6 m . The bed-recess (alcove) and the eating-recess adjoining the room by an opening in the wall without a door, are not considered as separate rooms or places. Their floor-space is included in the floor-space of the adjoining room. Kitchens are places established and used for cooking (maybe, for eating), of a floor-space of at 2 least 4 m , in generál providid with direct, natural light and ventilation (with window, door). The eating recess adjoining the kitchen mostly without a door is not considered as a separate place. Its floor-space increases that of the kitchen. 2 Kitchenettes are places of a floor-space under 4 m , built and used for cooking. (To this group belong alsó the tea-kitchenette, and the cooking cupboard.) This volume, in generál, contains the aggregated number of kitchens and kitchenettes, under the name of cooking places. Bathrocms (shower-stall, wash-basin alcove) are places used for washing in the cWelling. Generally they have a water conduit, sewage disposal and equipment for washing, but it is not the public utilities and facilities which matter but the use of the place. Other places are places which belong to the dwelling, add to its comforts and to the comfortfeeling of its inhabitants and are not indicated among the places enumerated already (e.g. entrance269
