The statisticians of the CMEA member states held consultations concerning census problems as early as 1965. On the basis of experiences obtained with the full-scale censuses performed in the sixties, a large-scale programme has been planned by the Statistical Standing Committee of the CMEA as to the methodological problems to be considered in the period 1963-1966. Between the 25^ June and the 2 n C' July 1964 the working group of the statistical experts had a meeting and discussed there the topics elaborated by the delegation of the People's Republic of Poland under the following title: "Exchange of experience on the organization, programme and results of data processing of the censuses to be performed in the CMEA member states. " On the purpose to the elaboration of the recommendations, three working groups have been formed dealing with different topics: population census, registration of the dwellings as well as the organization and mechanization of the data processing.
