1970 HUNGARIAN CENSUS OF POPULATION Information on the data collection and processing (1977)
I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 5. The performing of the registration
10. Subsequent registrations of the persons omitted from the census. 11. The subsequent correction of the errors. 12. Participation in subsequent activities, after the conclusion of the census. b/ PRE PARA TORY OPERA TIONS Among the preparatory activities of the councils figured the drawing up of the recommendations concerning the regional division into census districts as well as the classification of the censustakers according to wage-scale. The number of the census-takers and supervisors needed for the execution of the registration was fixed on the basis of the number of the census districts and supervisors' districts. Registration was performed in each census district by a single census-taker. A depart from this rule has proven, however, necessary in the case of census districts having sparse population as well as in the case of districts lying on the outskirts to which less than 50 persons belonged. As to the shaping of the supervisors' districts, a irule was accepted according to which three (in the case of smaller districts: four) census-takers have been subordinated to a supervisor. The persons suited for the execution of the duties of a census-taker or supervisor were selected by the person in charge of the community or the town. These persons have been selected, for the most part, from the sphere of the pedagogues. Considering the census period, the school holidays were prolonged by decree of the Minister of Education till the 14^ January 1970. The pedagogues were informed that their cooperation is unconditionally reckoned with. If the selection of the pedagogues gave insufficient number of census-takers and supervisors, other persons had to be selected who seemed capable of working and were supposedly suited for performing their duties as for instance persons who participated earlier in registration activities connected with the census or micro-census. In the districts where foreign nationalities are living, persons had to be selected speaking also fluently the foreign language in question. In the census districts organized on the sample survey principle, the more qualified censustakers have been appointed. A necessary reserve staff of the census-takers had also been cared for, according to the following: Strength of the reserve staff (number of the persons) Under five census districts 5-15 census districts 1 16-30 census districts 2 31-50 census districts 3 51-100 census districts 4 in the case of each 50 further district 1 37
