I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 5. The performing of the registration
The nominal roll of the census-takers and supervisors had to be submitted (in two copies, using the regular sheet) to the County Directorate of the Central Statistical Office for approval not later than the 15 November 1969, On the basis of the list approved, the plan of instruction was prepared for each person participating in the registration work, and taking the principle of the regional organization into consideration. c/ TRAINING The collaborators of the Central Statistical Office organized full-day consultations in the period of 8 - 12 December 1969 concerning the activities connected with the registration. A week later, between the 15** 1 and the 19** 1, another consultation was held which meant a half-day occupation for the persons participating in the full-scale registration and a full-day occupation for those designated for the representative survey. The vocational training took place separately for both groups mentioned. The place and date as well as further instructions about the participation (where the censustakers and supervisors had to appear in order to receive the necessary instructions) have been annexed to the plan of instruction prepared by the County Directorates of the Central Statistical Office th and forwarded to the respective persons not later than the-25 of November 1969. For the censustakers and supervisors performing their duties in communities, common instructions were given. During the training, the census-takers and supervisors obtained detailed knowledge of their activities to be performed as well as of the rules of how to fill in the respective forms. On the second day of the training, the instructors could be convinced, by means of posing questions, of the acquired amount of knowledge and preparedness of the participants. For the supervisors, a short additional consultation was held the exact time of which was announced on the occasion of the training (between 29-31 December 1969.) On the occasion of a second training, the sheet of the district (the Directory), the draft map and the necessary forms have been distributed by the person in charge of the community (or the town). The latter had - according to the records made by the councils, till the 15^ December - to adjust for the changes occurred in the Directories since the preparation of the Register of the streets and street-numbers (new dwelling houses, flats etc.) d/FURTHER PREPARATORY WORKS, SUPPLI WITH REGISTRATION FORMS, PROPAGANDA The necessary registration forms were distributed by the Central Statistical Office, trhrough the councils of the districts till the 10 t h December 1969. During the month of December took place the orientation of the public opinion as to the census and its importance. The Central Statistical Office has provided the councils with many kinds of announcements. It was the dutv of the person in charge of the communities and towns to take care that the annoucements be posted on the most frequented places (posters, walls of the houses etc. ). Announcements of smaller size have been posted in the anterooms of the council-houses, in the entrancehall of the schools, in stair-cases of larger buildings, in waiting rooms etc. 38
