The performing of the registration a/ THE ORGANIZATION OF THE CENSUS According to the paragraph 2. of the law-decree no. 18/1969. the performing of the data collection belongs to the duties of the executive committees of the councils. The technical management of the preparatory work was performed - in cooperation with the regional agencies - by the Department of Census of the Central Statistical Office. As far as the activity of the regional agencies is concerned, it was conducted by the organs of the County Directorates of the Central Statistical Office, following the instructions given by the Department of Census. The duties were performed by persons in charge of the counties as well as their deputies, both having been designated by the directors of the county agencies. In certain phases of the activities, the collaborators of the District Inspectorates of the Central Statistical Office also participated. The Department of the Census has appointed, on the purpose of technical management, technical instructors at the beginning of 1969 who - as against the practice followed in the census of 1960, in addition to the registration activities - have assisted and, in the early phases of the preparatory work, controlled the activity of the persons in charge of the county. In order to perform the direct execution of the activities connected with the census, both in the towns (in the districts of Budapest and the county towns) as well as in the communities a person in charge was appointed. The main tasks of the latter were fixed by the President of the Central Statistical Office, in agreement with the Head of the Council Agencies of the Council of Ministers, in the following: 1. The designation of the census-takers and supervisors. 2. The organization of their training. 3. Supply with printed matter. 4. Local propaganda prior to the registration. 5. The organization of the meeting of the supervisors, prior to the registration. 6. The organization and control of the execution of the census. 7. The performing of the financial tasks connected with the census. 8. The preparation of the summary sheet of the community (or the town); report on the conclusion of the census. 9.
