1970 HUNGARIAN CENSUS OF POPULATION Information on the data collection and processing (1977)
I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 2. Regional preparation
d/ REGISTERS OF STREETS AND STREET-NUMBERS Registers of streets and street-numbers are being made since the population census of 1960, with the further aim at eliminating the double listing or the omissions as well as the establishing of the census districts. Registers of streets and street-numbers to be used in the census of 1970 have been prepared in two different ways: one for the communities and one for the towns separately. The registers show the dwelling-houses in increasing order by streets, the number of flats within the building, the number of the present population (in communities); the enumeration of the flats by floors and doornumbers in the dwelling houses as well as the resident population (in towns). e/ THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CENSUS DISTRICTS On the basis of the registers of the streets and street-numbers prepared, the communities and towns had to be divided into census districts and supervisors' districts. The division into districts preceded by the establishment of the sub-districts and the districts of town-planning. This task was performed - in accordance with the Building and Communication Department of the respective town council - by the VÁTI (Scientific Institution of Town Planning), and has been fixed in maps accordingly. The division into census districts was determined by the requirement that the registration be executed by a single census-taker within the period provided for the registration. Accordingly, 300 persons in downtown districts, while generally 100-150 persons in hardly accessible areas of outskirts have been included to one census district. The recapitulation Qf the streets, dwelling houses, flats and persons belonging to a census districts took place, on the basis of the Registers of streets and street-numbers, by means of the "Registers of the census district", to which a map was also annexed for the use of the census-taker. The map displayed the limits of the district belonging to him. The register contained the address of each dwelling to be called on as well as the expected number of persons to be registered. When shaping the limits of the district - similarly to the former censuses the so-called axis principle of the street was followed. The supervisors' districts have been established by means of concentrating 3 adjacent census district to a supervisors' district. // PRELIMINARY RECAPITULATION OF THE COMMUNITIES AND TOWNS A preliminary recapitulation of the "Registers of census districts" was prepared in each settlement. The recapitulation showed the number of the buildings, dwelling houses, flats and the present population, according to the increasing serial number of the census districts. The number of the census-takers and the supervisors has been established accordingly. 23
