THE FIRST COURSE FOR STORE-KEEPERS IN HUNGARY

Abstracts: Realizing the urgent need of training store- keepers working in collections of different museums, libraries or galleries, the National Centre of Museums (now Hungarian National Museum Conservation Department) has started a new one - year course in January 1989.

This project has arisen the interest of a number of applicants, and so 45 students could take part in the education.

In the first half of the year they have studied museology, knowledge of materials, climate control, lighting, packing, right exhibition circumstances. During practical works they have learned treating humidity and light measuring equipments, working in storages.

The second half of the year they have visited different collections of different museums, paintings, graphics, ethnographic objects, archaeological objects, libraries, and special collections. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the traditional and computerized catalogue system.

Hopefully the students who attended this course could get a critical view and could be good specialists in the protection of art objects.
