LUKACS, Katalin The restoration of a Komárom chest - Summary The author gives an account of the restoration of a chest in the collection of the Ráday Museum of the Presbyterian Diocese of Dunamellék (Danube environs). The surface stain was detached by 5% Prewocel solution (nonionic surface active agent), and the cleaning was continued by using alcohol, acetone and toluol, reaching a sufficient result after using dimethyl- formamide. The fixing of the paint layer was performed by a 5% solution of acetone-toluolic polivininyl-acetate. For desinfec- tioning Xylamon was used on the non-painted surface. The boards of very bad preservation were treated with Araldite AW 106 synthetic resin. The same material was used, mixed with powder pigment and stuffed with sawdust for the completing of the missing parts. The drawer of the chest and the boards of the bottom were substituted from pinetree. Sticking were done by using UHU Plus Endfest 300 epoxy resin. The iron parts of the chest were cleaned by boiling in 10% NaOH solution and distilled water, and neutralised in 20% tannic acid. As a protective coating on the metal parts, polibuthyl-methacrylate solved in acetone-toluenet of 1:9 ratio was used. The iron battens missing, that were attached to the cover of the chest were made on basis of analogies. The missing parts on the painted surface were retouched using tempera paint, than the chest was rubbed with a turpentine solution of the lac Rowney Mastic Matt. List of figures 1.
