PREFACE

Our publication contains the lectures of the 5th International Restorer Seminar held at Veszprém between 29th June and 7th July, 1985. i

119 specialists coming from 16 countries assisted at this conference. Besides the lectures delivered at the Seminar we publish also those ones the lecturers of which were not present

but have sent their papers to us. At the request of Ms Lucilla Olivieri her lecture has not been brought out in the volume.

The lecture of Mr. Adolph Ovcsinnikov figures only in the volume of foreign language of the Seminar.

Summaries of foreign languages have not been made for the individual lectures. In the collected volume of the Seminar these latters figure in their original (English, French, German) language, while the Hungarian ones have been translated into English.

The program of the Seminar and the list of its participants can be found in the 15th volume of "Műtárgyvédelem".

According to their subjects the lectures have been ranged *

into five groups. The present volume contains as follows:- Common responsibilities and tasks of the restorer,

scientist and museologist in storing and exhibiting the objects

of art, with particular regard to the problems of exhibit

installations and shovf-cases.

*- Questions relating to the treatment of mural paintings and mural painting fragments discovered during excavations; conservation in situ and removal; restoration and reconstruction; approaches to display and storage.
