I have the honor to report that in accordance with your instructions of Sept 6th hist, having embarked on board the Turkish Steam Frigate Mukhbiri Surour in the afternoon of Sept. 7th } I proceeded to Gemlik, where we arrived in six hours. Mr. Kossuth and his companions had already reached there the same after noon. After a day had passed in consultation as to who should go and who should stay, I prepared a Memorandum for Mr. Kossuth of which I enclose a copy and then made a list of fifty persons to be received on board of the U. S. Steam Frigate Mississippi, leaving out fifty persons at Gemlik whom Mr. Kossuth was desirous of having embarked also if it were possible, but still leaving out no person coming from Kutahia, at the same time able and desirous to go to America. A copy of this list I enclose, embracing also the names of seven other persons who received a passage and whom Capt. Long accepted. One of this was Mr. Lemmi an Italian, who had been most useful and essential to Mr. Kossuth in conducting through safe channels the correspondence in reference to his embarking on board the Mississippi, and for whom Mr. Kossuth had requested passage as his secretary. A few of this fifty seven passengers are to be embarked at Spezia and a few at Gibraltar, including General Wysocki. General Perczel and Count Batthyány are at Broussa. Having received the Refugees, we left Gemlik Tuesday evening and arrived at the Dardanelles Wednesday morning, and before 2 PM. the whole party was transferred to the United States Steam Frigate which was there awaiting them. Gov. Kossuth was welcomed most cordially by Capt. Long and his officers and the enthusiasm of the crew was such, that it having been determined not to receive a certain Hungarian whose name
