The Company was founded by Abraham Ganz in 1844 and transformed in 186 9 into a joint stock company under the style of Ganz and Co. Iron Foundry and Mechanical engineers Co, Ltd. The Majority of ifcs shares was acquired in 1895 by the Hungarian General Credit Bank. The Company merged in in 1879 the First Hungarian Waggoon Works Co. Ltd. and in 1911 the Danubius Shipyard and Mechanical Engineers Co. Ltd. At the latter date it changed its name into Ganz and Co. Danubius Mechanical Engineers, Waggon Works and Shipyard Co. Ltd. In 1927 the Company incorporated the Schlick-Nicholson Machine and Waggon Works and Shipyard Co. Ltd. the Machine and Railway Equipment Works Co.Ltd. of Kistarcsa and the Dr. Liptak and Co. Construction and Iron Industry Co. Ltd, The first Hungarian dewing Machine and Bicycle Works Co, Ltd. merged with this Company in 192 9 and in the same year the Ganz Electrical Works Co. Ltd., which had separated from the mother company in 19o6 and worked independently since, also returned to it. The style was modified from this date to Ganz and Co. Electrical Works, Railway Carriage Manufacturers^ Mechanic al E ngineers and Shipyard Co. Ltd. By virtue of decree No. 23550/1946,M,E. the Company was brought under governement management and put under the supervision of the Central Office of the Heavy Industries.
