Ez különösen jól ültethető be a szem fölötti homloktájon, a szemüreg boltozatán és az orrcsonton végzett koz­metikus műtéteknél. A ko­­ponyatetó-plasztikát leg­alább hat hónappal a seb gyógyulása után kell el­végezni. Csak két olyan eset fordult elő, amikor komplikációk miatt a pro- ’ tézist el kellett távolítani. A sérülések műtét útján való rekonstruálására részben a vietnami háború súlyosan sebesültjeinél ke­rült sor. Dr. Edward S. Conolly, a San Francisó-i Veterans Administration Hospital idegsebészeti osztályának vezetője nagyon kedvezően nyilatkozott az új eljárás­ról. Az idegsebészek Bal Harbour-i kongresszusán kijelentette: „A szilikongu­mi felhasználása csak két, nehézségbe ütközik. Az egyik, az anyagot kereske­delmi úton még nem le­het beszerezni. A másik: alkalmazásához vulkani­záló berendezésre van szükség.” 1969 óta szilikongumit a kranioplasztikakn.il kizáró­lag a San Franciscó-i és Palo AJto-i Veterans Ad­ministration kórházakban alkalmaznak A tudósok hangsúlyoz­zák, hogy az új technikát még nem sikerült teljesen szabványosítani.
