TÁVIRAT AZ AMERIKAI PÜSPÖKÖK KONFERENCIÁJÁHOZ

Ft. Jaszovszky József dr. püspöki tanácsos, a kaliforniai Szent István Magyar Katolikus Misszió vezetője, november 12 én az alábbi táviratot intézte a Washingtonban ülésező amerikai püspöki konferenciához:

Dear Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops:

The President of the U.S.A., Mr. Jimmy Carter, has intended to present the Holy Crown of St. Stephen of Hungary, to the Communist regime of Hungary. The motivation of his future action is entirely false. We American citizens of Hungarian descend are protesting against it., The Holy Crown has been for thousand years the constitutional source of all rights and duties of the Hungarian People including the head of the Hungarian State.

But not only this. The Holy Crown is the most precious relic of the Hungarian Christian History and of the Roman Catholic Church in the whole world.

King Stephen (997-1038) received the Holy Crown from Pope Sylvester II. in the year 1000. Indeed, it became so famous in Hungary, that Stephen also received the ri ght io found bishopries, and cloisters, monasteries. Churches basilicas were built over the country. Priests and religious orders began to establish schools. On August 15, 1038, shortly before his death King Stephen dedicated Hungary and the Hungarian people to the “Great Lady of Hungary, to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Since the Catholic Church and Hungary are not free, since Hungary is in colonial status and Russian Sovjet troops are in the Country,

since the Church administration is in the hands of the State Department of Ministry of Cultqre.

since the Communist State of Hungary has declared as State Religion the atheism in practice and tbe freedom of concience and religion has been suppressed,

and despites of the diplomatic relation between both the U.S.A. and the Hungarian Communist regime,

the Hungarian Communist regime has not any right to have the Holy Crown as a piece of the National Museum for propaganda purposes abroad.

Therefore we Hungarians of the West Coast of the U.S.A. are humbly requesting the U.S. Catholic Conference lo make a protest to President Jimmy Carter concerning the handing out the Holy Crown to the Hungarian Communist regime.

If you feel that you can effect a change of attitude in a legislator who is opposed to our cause, use your talents and resources to try to win him over.

Feel out those legislators who have not taken a stand on this issue and pressure them to champion our case.

SUPPORT those legislators who are already committeed to, our cause.

Let each one of us make a personal commitment to contact at least TEN people (beside the public officials) and enlist their active support.

Dear President Carter:

Return of the Crown of St. Stephen to the Communist government in Hungary wäll only strengthen their stranglehold on millions of people in Eastern Europe.

The Crown represents the independence and legitimacy of government. Hungary is not free; its government has not permitted free elections since its occupation.

Returning the Crown w ould make a mockery of human rights and our own freedoms and liberties. The Crown is like our own Bill of Rights and Constitution; it represents the concept of freedom.

November 4 was 21 years since the Hungarian freedomfighters rose up for freedoms. Don’t deny their memories and their ideals for your short-term political gains.

HUNGARY.

Hungary is occupied by Soviet forces and oppression is the rule behind the Iron Curtain, where America is the only hope for freedom loving, millions.

God s curse or blessing will follow your action. May the Lord Almighty save you from making the wrong decision.

NEM VEZET CÉLRA

Amerika legrégibb munkáslapja, a clevelandi Citizen”, amelyet a clevelandi épitőmunkások szakszervezeti tanácsa ad ki, november 18-i számában az első oldalon ismerteti az amerikai magyarság küzdelmét a §zent Koron; kiadása ellen. Teljes egészében közli Oakar Mary Ros< kongresszusi képviselő Meany Georgehoz ebben az üg\ ben intézeti táviratát, amelyben az AT I .-CIO nagy tekin télynek- örvendő elnökét arra kéri, járjon közbe Carter e nőknél a Szent Korona további amerikai őrizetben tartás érdekében.

A lap második oldalán a szerkesztő külön is foglalkozik a Szent Korona kérdésével. Annak nyomatékos hangsúlyozása után, hogy az kizárólag a szabad , és-független Magyarországot illetheti csak meg, a következő megáll apitásikat olvashatjuk:

Once upon a time the St. Stephen Crgwn ~ an even greater national symbol to Hungarians, most likely, than the Americdn Eagle is to us — appeared on all Hungarian currency, on its flag, on many postage stamps, and was an integral part of the national coat of arms.

After the Soviet take-over, the image of the Holy Crown was never seen again. Not anywhere, on anything. It was replaced by red stars and by the Soviet hammer and sickle.

A Szent Koronát Carter és a külügyminisztérium mégis ki akarja adni: To influence Hungary to become more

independent of Russia.’

Obbagy G. William szerkesztő maró gúnnyal jegyzi meg, hogy

perhaps President Carter should ptesent all habitual American law-breakers with police badges, hoping they will be inspired to go straight.

A Szent Korona kiadása ugyanúgy nem vezet célhoz, mint ahogy ez nem oldaná meg a bűnözés kérdését.

CLEVELAND POLGÁRMESTERE

Az egész ország Iegfiátalabb nagyvárosi polgármestere, a november 8-án megválasztott, 31 éves Kucinich Dennis

J., november 14-én átvette a város vezetését. Néhány nappal később több mint 200 városi alkalmazottat elbocsátott ( lay off -ra tett), mert megítélése szerint a városi közigazgatásban nincs rájuk szükség. Személyzeti igazgatója, Fok | Jeffrey megállapította, hogy az elbocsátottak átlagos évi I fizetése 20.000 $ volt. Ez azt jelenti, hogy az új polgármester az elbocsátott tisztviselők fizetésével körülbelül 3 millió $-t takarít meg jövőre az adófizetők javára.

Kucinich polgármester példáját követi Krakowski A. Jerome, a városi bíróság új titkára is, aki Kucinich örökébe lépett. H árom beosztottját, akiket Kucinich nevezett ki, máris elbocsátotta s az AP értesülése szerint még további 15 alkalmazott elbocsátása várható.

Lapzárta előtt kaptuk a hírt, hogy Kucinich clevelandi polgármester intézkedésének, a tömeges elbocsájtásoknak végrehajtását a bíróság megakadályozta.
