We wanted to see how the Hungarians perform, wondering how they live up to their previous success. In the “Opening Ceremonies” nation, after nation were coming carrying their national flags and the announcers were singling out those who at previous games showed success. The TV commercials in an irritating way cut into the broadcast adding to the uncertainty of the Greek alphabetic order. Then you heard the screams: “Be ready, pretty soon the Hungarians are coming... What?... commercial break"... not again!...” No, it can't happen again...finally the commercial came to an end! They would now show the nations that marched during the commercial; Hungarians are coming! what Hungarians??? One person with the flag....where are the rest of the 225 Hungarians???... NBC and Bob Costas goofed again. Thanks! But no thanks! Unfortunately there were some blemishes at this game. Three medals, two gold and one silver, were taken away from members of the Hungarian team. They were all related to drug testing. Adrián Annus, hammer throw, gold medal, submitted samples for testing from to different people. Róbert Fazekas, discus throw, gold medal, was given four hours to produce sample for testing. He claimed that the given time was not sufficient. Ferenc Gyurkovics, weight lifter, silver, was denied the medal. The Hungarian Weightlifting Association is appealing. These are not part of our listing on the previous page. John Balogh, Fairfield.
