Honorary Citizen of Budapest In the chaos of political God-knowswhat, Budapest received and outstanding person as a Honorary Citizen. Outstanding wasn’t meant on the positive, Human side. Oh no. It was one of the most hated dictator of modem history. It was the man himself; it was Joszif Viszarionovics Stalin. This spelling is good enough for the Hungarians, probably in Russian, or in English it would be different. Yes, the Hungarian people, at least their capitol Budapest was “honored” to have Stalin on the list. The choice wasn’t made by the Hungarian Scientific Academy, nor the clergy. It didn’t even go to the polls or the voting booths. János Kádár and the kind made the decision and carried it through. On the internet I was looking for information. 1 found Father Galambos’ letter and he was referring to the article from the Hungarian Lobby. In that article Béla Lipták wrote the following: In 1947 with János Kádár’s nominated Stalin to be Honorary Citizen of Budapest. 57 years were needed, also the year and a half pressure of the Hungarian Lobby. Finally we arrived to a decision that Stalin will be taken off the Honorary Citizen list on April 29.1 am very to all members of the HL who wrote to Mayor Gábor Demszky, and I also thank him for listening to us. It was about time to take this step. The only way for a nation to build the future is to agree on the values of the fathers’ and grandfathers’ actions. At the end of the 19th century the reason for our prosperity was that Mór Jókai and others place the past exactly where it should be, also they were teaching the same things in schools that the veteran talked about to the grandsons at the dinner, and everybody heard the same from the pulpit on Sunday in the those who took up arms against their own people. They were sinners and traitors. It is necessary to tell the same stories in the schools as the ones we freedomfighters tell our grandchildren. Unfortunately we haven’t reached that point. Even in present day news they refer to the Freedomfight as an “event”. Today the students don’t find the soul of “Szabó bácsi” or “Angyal Pista”. The files of the State Department still haven’t seen day light, and in the Hungarian Parliament one could see the traitor Gyula Horn, To accomplish the prosperity of Hungary again in the 21st century, we refer to Ferenc Deák, it is not enough to erase Stalin from the Honorary Citizen list, but we also have to erase all the lies, too. It is time, once and for ever to close down the area of “we lied on all wavelengths” and face this past the way it really was. It is necessary to heal the Hungarian soul. It is necessary, so every Hungarain who love their country should be able to hold hands. It is necessary for every honest person who has a free spirit and holds onto the traditions should do the spring cleaning opening the way in the 21st century for the betterment of the national unity.” We thank Béla Lipták for his patriotic words, and for all the work he puts into the Hungarian Lobby. We see him fighting through many things and accomplishing success. We also thank Mayor Dr. Gábor Demszky for taking the proper step. The Lobby could be reached by E- mailing o the following address <Lobby@lists .hungaria. org> Joseph F. Balogh church. This agreement about the past was the foundation of the national unity and self assurance. On this road of harmony we will take a small, but important step on April 29. The leaders of the capital will finally announce that there is no more sweeping the dirt under the rug. This is the time to face and evaluate the past to make it possible to start building a lasting future. I am not talking about hanging and incarcerating, but bear in mind one could only forgive after one asked for forgiveness. It is a long road because we are not talking only about Stalin, Kádár, but all Page 1 Final downfall of Honorary Citizen Joszif Viszarionovics Sztálin
