A TRIBUTE FROM A NEW GENERATION Klaudia Kovács Producer One Sunday afternoon Hungarians were gathering for a literary show. As usual, people were saying hello to each other, chit-chatting, and meeting strangers. A friend tapped me on the shoulder and said that he wants me to meet somebody. At the introduction I ran her face and name through the many others in my head and said: Panorama. Referring to the Hungarian magazine. That is where I saw Klaudia Kovács’ name and picture. I also read the article she wrote. As I learned, there is a lot more to her name then what I was aware of. She has been a film and stage producer. Also had a monthly show for the Hungarian Satellite Television in Budapest. Klaudia has her own company. About 1956 she said that she learned the real events of it here in America, and it was different to what she was thought at school in Hungary. Then she talked to us about her new film: “Ladies and Gentlemen: Allow me to draw your attention to a new documentary film entitled "Tom from the Flag,'" which is about the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and its significant international consequences. This revolt served as an important harbinger of the future downfall of communism and later political and economic rearrangement of the world. This feature-length film is being produced to honor the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising and will be part of the worldwide celebration in 2006. The filmmakers' objective is to screen "Tom from the Flag" at movie theaters and film festivals as well as on television stations around the globe. The unique aspect of the project lies in the fact that it will examine the revolution from outsiders' points of view. In the autumn of 1956, a group of Bulgarian, Greek, and Korean students and locally-stationed Russian soldiers joined in the Hungarian uprising Page 6 and became willing to sacrifice their own lives despite the fact that the fight was not their own. It is therefore our intent to interview those citizens from other countries who participated or were substantially affected by this event. We, the filmmakers, feel that this unusual approach will lend more credibility to our chronicle and prove instrumental in elevating the Hungarian revolution to its rightful place of honor in world history . Raising the capital as quickly as possible is of the utmost urgency .The advanced age of many of these courageous freedom fighters calls for immediate attention. Consequently our goal is to obtain all the necessary capital by the end of 2003. Currently we have acquired one fourth of the budget. We are also in the process of securing significant patronage from the international community .Many influential individuals and institutions have already pledged their support. Robert Redford, who was studying in Vienna in 1956 and has direct personal experience to share, has expressed his intent to grant us an interview. This particular segment by itself could be an extremely important factor in drawing attention to this film from a global audience. Oscar-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond has expressed his interest in working on this project. Also has the Hungarian National Film Archive. Other supporters include the Hungarian Cultural Center of New York, the American Hungarian Foundation, the Széchényi Hungarian National Library and the William Fox Hungarian Film Club. Furthermore, the Hungarian Consul Generals 'of New York and Los Angeles, have endorsed this film.” Klaudia Kovács Please help to make this film a reality by contributing directly Please make your check payable to the "International Documentary Association" (in the "Memo" make sure to write "Tom from the Flag"), and send it to: Klaudia Kovács, Producer 1626 North Wilcox Avenue #393 Hollywood, California 90028 USA Telephone:323.464.1.138 /323.528.877 After the check has cleared, you will be given a specific Federal Identification Number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service, Department of the Treasury , so that you may use your donation as a tax deduction in the United States.
