Above: John Horvath talks about the way the ball started fifty years ago. Right: The stage with orchestra and speaker. Below: Sarika Balogh mentions a few episodes of her many years. On the lower part Joan Farcus, Esq. reads the Salutation. Also a picture of the diners. saying anything in either languages, and then there are the accents of many degrees. Through all this and may I say over riding them is the joyfully beating sound of the Hungarian hearts. An other change is noticeable. During the fifty years the average age of the participants slowly moved towards a higher number. Somewhere along the line it this gave way to an opposite direction. Today the picture is different. There are the middle aged and to the joy of all, the many young ones taking the first steps into society. After the “happy hour” Dr. Balazs Somogyi, MC, announced the start of the ball. With this Chris Lynch brought in the Hungarian flag and placed it at the front of the stage. Then the beautiful debutantes and their handsome escorts were called pair after pair. As they came forward the escort gave a rose to the young lady, then they departed from each other, girls on one side, boys on the other side of the dance floor. The debutantes are Krisztina Aranyi, Bíbor Bányai, Kinga Kertész, Teréz Tala, Barbara Sümeg, Krisztina Sörfőző, Samantha Heere, Christina C. Szabó. Naturally we can’t talk only about the young ladies, we have a list of the young men too. László Marsshai, István Totha Tamás Schadinger, Jordan Czeizler, Olivér Valu, and András Máthé. We love them all. They were followed by Judith Balogh, President of the Pannónia Club, and Joseph F. Balogh, with the longest continuous membership in the Club. Judith welcomed everybody and wished them a good time. Joseph greeted the previous leaders who were present, and mentioned those who couldn’t make it this time, And Kiss and Vicki Koltai. Dr. Balázs Somogyi, introduced John Horvath who was escorted by the lovely Eva Mikolai Wolff. John was present, and active member, when the Cafe Budapest started. Johnny gave a short informative speech about what happened fifty years ago and who were the people taking part of it. (See previous article) Then Sárika Balogh on her husband’s arm, took the mic and she talked about later times when she was President of the Club for many years. Mentioning those years brought back pleasant memories for many. Later Joan Farcus, Esquire, President of Greater Bridgeport Bar Association, Inc. presented the Pannónia American Page 5
