Also for establishing a scholarship fund supporting students of Hungarian background, who are in good standing with their studies and participate in Hungarian events. Following the ceremony of the fiftieth anniversary Zsuzsa Dömötör, chairman of the ball, greeted the participants of the ball. At the request of her husband, Csaba Cseke, she gave permission to open the ball. They started to dance the traditional waltz and the youngsters joined in, followed by all others. The music was by Continental Orchestra, lead by Kalman Magyar, Jr. Also his wife, Beatrix, sings along with them. Additional to the good music of the orchestra, we had a special treat. On a professional level Reverend Leslie Martin, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Norwalk played the guitar and sang American dance music to the joy not only to the young generation but others too. The dance floor was occupied all night long. Just to mention the side shows; on five panels an exhibit showed many photos of past Cafe Budapest Balls. The Rethy family was kind to put them together. There was also a big size photograph showing the 1960 ball. (See previous article.) There was a long list of items that were given for a silent auction. Included were paintings and other artpieces, ceramics, some made in Hungary, cosmetics, gift certificates and delicacies. It was an uplifting event, everybody enjoying company, food, music and dancing. It was well designed and organized. This event leaves us with the satisfying experience of new, younger generation taking over the helm. An extreme thanks goes to the ladies who really made it possible.
