Every year the Calvin UCC of Fairfield in the winter treats the community with a special venison and beef gulyás dinner, and in the summer a picnic with Hungarian dishes. Delicious dishes may I say. One could measure up the interest by all the cars looking for a parking spot. Families and friends gathered around tables under the tents, some just came for the food, packed up and took it home to their waiting families. It was nice to see the many young people of different age groups liven up the place. I ran into many friends, also into those who did the work. Just to rattle of some names; Turrell, Godlewski, Kaminski, Burr, Wargo, Olah, Urszenyi, Sedenszki, Gazdik, Balogh, Miklós, and the chief elder, Karolina Szabó. There were a lot more participants, and I regret that I left out so many. It isn’t easy to measure up the amount of work that went into this Hungarian picnic. To get some idea, I will let you know that they served over six hundred dinners. Now that is a lot of food to cook and bake. The picnic is a good and successful tradition. Mark your calendar for the next year, make sure your friends do the same. J.F.B. Page 6 Photos: Top row: Entering the picnic grounds. Calvin UCC in Fairfield, CT.
