Olyan volt az egész, mint egy tanitóköltemény, amelyben a jó megkapja jutalmát és Szálasit felakasztják. Fülöp Ilonától is érkezett cso­mag, jeléül annak, hogy Holly­woodban még nem felejtettek el egészen. Egy egész elmúlt élet elevenedett fel a Fülöp Ilona csomagja nyomán, amiből meg­tudtam, hogy a barátság min­dennél erősebb kötelék. Emlé­keztem, hogyan inspirált, ho­gyan lelkesedett Ilona, amikor eslő amerikai regényemet, a “Greenhorn”-t Írtam, hogyan hivott az unalmas, de biztos Det­­roitból a bizonytalan, de izgal­mas Hollywoodba, hogyan segí­tett hozzá, hogy szcenáriumiró legyek a Paramountnál. Ugyancsak ő volt az, aki öt­százdolláros állást szerzett ne­kem a Metrónál és amikor re­megve az izgalomtól és a boldog­ságtól felvittem hozzá az első heti fizetésemről szóló csekket azzal, hogy adjon érte huszonöt dollárt, a többit vonja le a tar­tozásra, igy intett le: — Én háromezer dollárt kere­sek hetenkint, tehát nyilvánva­ló, hogy a te pénzedre nincs szükségem. — Az nem úgy van. Tarto­zom, fizetek — erősködtem. — Nagyon helyes. Tartozol, azt elismerem, fizess is, de ne nekem ,akinek van, hanem add oda majd a kétezer dollárt an­nak, vagy azoknak, akik rá lesz­nek szorulva. Én tudom, hogy te majd nekik vissza fogod fi­zetni, azért adtam neked, mert tudtam, hogy a pénzem jó ke­zekben van. Azóta is törlesztgetem ezt a kölcsönt, de sohasem fogom tud­ni teljesen kifizetni. És Vidor Karcsitól is érkezett csomagom, amiben volt minden­féle, amiről álmodik a lány, vagyis én. Ahogy bontogattam az ameri­kai Vidor-csomagot, eszembe­jutottak a régi rossz idők, ami­kor statiszta voltam az álom­gyárban és Vidor szerezte az el­ső hetifizetéses, komoly “cut­­ter”-i állásomat. One (1) Sheriff. Two (2) Coroners. Three (3) Members of the Board of Chosen Freeholders. In addition to the nomination of candi­dates to the aforementioned offices the election of two members, one man and one woman of the Local County Committee of the Democratic party from each of the 26 election districts, totaling 52 members in all for a term of one year and two members, one man and one woman of the Local Coun­ty Committee of the Republican party from each election district, totaling 52 members in all for a term of one year. Notice is hereby given that qualified voters of the City of New Brunswick not already registered in said City of New Brunswick under the Laws of New Jersey governing permanent registration may reg­ister or transfer at Permanent Registration Bureau, Middlesex County Board of Elec­tions, Citizens Building, New Brunswick, N. J., at any time on or before March 9, 1950, during the following hours: Daily (except Saturday) 9 A. M. to 4 P. M. for the Primary Election and between Wednsday, April 19, 1950 and Thursday, September 28, for the General Election.
