Page 4 MAGYAR HERALD 1st QUARTER, 1994 Time magazine names Cleveland Orchestra best ,______in America______ Under Music Director Christoph von Dohnanyi, an honorary member of our own Magyar Club, the Cleveland Orches­tra has become "the best band in the land", Time magazine says in its newest issue. Bang the cymbals loudly. Under conduc­tor Dohnanyi, the Ohioans have risen to the forefront of American ensembles, as once before under the great George Szell, another Hungarian conductor. 2 Performances, Live on Stage at Playhouse Square Center! After a four-year hiatus, the Hungar­ian State Folk Ensemble returns to Play­house Square Center! Based in Budapest, the Ensemble is comprised of 70 per­formers, including whirling dancers, a su­perb chorus and a virtuoso "show-stop­­ping" orchestra, complete with gypsy vio­lins, Hungarian cimbaloms and other eth­nic instruments. Company members are hand-picked from the very best in Hun­gary, and have been chosen above all other Hungarian folk companies by the govern­ment to be its official representative abroad. Important news release regarding Mindszenti Plaza of the City of . Cleveland . The Mindszenti Plaza is located at 1201 Lakeside Avenue. It is a minipark fronting the Utilities building and the Holi­day Inn, in which a bronze bust of Cardi­nal Mindszenti is the focal point. A gen­eral plan for renovation and improvement of the park was presented to the Mindszenti Plaza committee and certain local government officials, by Charles E. Skerek, Manager of Sites Development for the City of Cleveland. In addition to per­forming needed renovations,a water foun­tain will be added as well as a lighting sys­tem. The plans were well-received by the Mindszenti committee,as well as the gov­ernment officials who were in attendance.
