Page 2 MAGYAR HERALD 1st QUARTER, 1994 I EMERY). SZABÓ | 1919-1993 Emery J. Szabó was an automotive en­gineer who worked for Leece-Neville & Co. for 44 years before retiring in 1986. Mr. Szabó, 74, died at his home in Pep­per Pike one day before he would have celebrated his 47th wedding anniversary. He had cancer. He was born in Cleveland and gradu­ated from East Technical High School in 1937. He earned his way through Fenn Col­lege by working for Ohio Bell and gradu­ated in 1943 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He joined Leece-Neville,a manufacturer of truck and automotive electrical equip­ment, after graduation and worked as a professional engineer. He left Leece-Neville (now Leece- Neville Prestolite Electronics Inc.) for ser­vice in the Navy. He worked his way up to engineering manager. He was in charge of the design and development of alternators, starter motors and regulators. He held a patent on a load control circuit he designed. He was active in a number of profes­sional organizations and was a 50-year member of the Society of Automotive En­gineers. He was also a member of the Cleveland Socieity of Professional Engi­neers. In the 1980s, he was president of the Magyar Club of Cleveland for two years. He had been theCfub'streasurerfor more than 20 years, and was a member of the Board of Directors for numerous terms. He was also a member of the Hungar­ian Junior League and the Geauga Magyar Cultural Society. He was a life member of the Hungarian Business & Tradesmen's Club. In addition to his wife of nearly 47 years, Agnes, he is survived by three sons, James A. of Chicago, Paul E. of Moreland Hills and Richard E. of Mayfield Heights, and four grandchildren. Services were held at St. Margaret of Hungary Catholic Church, 4680 Lander Road, Orange, Ohio. □ □□ I DR. HOMER CHARLES HARTZELL | 1914-1993 Dr. Hartzell was a well-known physician whose entire family was involved in medi­cine.His mother, father, sister and first wife were all in the medical profession in the greater Cleveland area. He received his M.D. from Case West­ern Reserve's Medical School in 1939. He served as a radiologist at St. John's Hospi­tal, and as chief-radiologist at Metro Gen­eral Hospital. He retired in 1982. Dr. Hartzell married Lillian Kautzky in 1988.The marriage service was performed by Dr. Stephen Szabó at the First Hungar­ian Reformed Church. The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra was one of the many charities he sup­ported. Dr. Hartzell became an enthusias­tic member of our Club and artender of all the Club's Board and Club activities,along with his wife Lillian, although he was nei­ther Hungarian nor a descendant of Hun­garians. He passed away on November 16,1993. A graveside service was held on Novem­ber 23, followed by a memorial service at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights with our editor officiating.
