MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 21. oldal World Alliance of Reformed Churches News Release 19 April 2007 Reformed pastors discuss work and witness in the 21st century. Thirty senior pastors from Reformed congregations in 16 countries are meeting in Geneva 17 to 20 April to explore together the role of large, influential congregations in the Reformed movement today. The theme of the meeting is "The Mission of the Presbyterian and Reformed Church Worldwide and You." It is being organized by the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) whose secretariat is located in Geneva, a city with roots in the 16th century Protestant Reformation. "I hope this is a time of spiritual renewal and new energy for you," WARC president Clifton Kirkpatrick said in welcoming the pastors. The gathering will focus on using Reformed tradition as a way to equip the church for the challenges of the 21st century, he added. "It is clear to us we need to be re-weaving our relationships in the Reformed movement," Kirkpatrick said. "We are trying in many ways to reconnect with our networks in the World Alliance of Reformed Churches." The WARC president said the larger, influential congregations have much to offer the Reformed family while the Alliance has resources that could be better utilized by these congregations. "This week is a time to begin to build community together," Kirkpatrick said. The pastors are meeting at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey and have visited key Reformation sites in Geneva, including the Calvin Auditory, the International Museum of the Reformation and the Ecumenical Centre, which houses WARC and a number of other ecumenical bodies. They have been meeting with WARC staff; the general secretaries of the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation; and participants in the 2009 Calvin Consultation, a group sponsored by the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches and WARC that is working on plans to celebrate the 500th birthday of John Calvin. Presentations have focused on the Reformation 500 years later; building stronger, effective ministries in large Reformed congregations; and on how WARC can enrich congregational ministry. Elhunyt dr.Mészáros István nyugalmazott püspök Szívünkben megszomorodva, de Isten kezéből elfogadva sorsunkat tudatjuk, hogy 2007. február 14-én, életének 78. évében hazatért megváltó Urához dr. Mészáros István a Tiszáninneni Református Egyházkerület nyugalmazott püspöke. Az őt a földi halandók sorából búcsúztató istentiszteletre 2007. február 21-én szerdán délután 14 órakor kerül sor a Miskolc-avasi templomban. Mészáros István a Zemplén megyei Pácinban született 1929. április 3-án földművelő családban. A gimnáziumot Sárospatakon, a teológiát Sárospatakon és Debrecenben végezte. 1953-ban tett lelkipásztori vizsgát. Több gyülekezetben végzet segédlelkészi szolgálatot, 1956 és 1984 között a Borsod megyei Kisgyőr lelkipásztora volt, majd nyugdíjban vonulásáig (2003) Miskolc-avasi lelkipásztor. 1978-ban rendszeres teológiai tárgyból summa cum laude minősítésessel doktori fokozatot szerzett Debrecenben, 1982/83-ban Amerikában a Princeton-i Egyetem ösztöndíjasa volt. A Tiszáninneni Református Egyházkerület 1978-ban főjegyzővé, 1990-ben püspökké választotta. Ez utóbbi tisztséget 2002-ig töltötte be. A Sárospataki Teológiai Akadémián 1991 és 2003 között tanszékvezető tanár. Felesége Bernáth Klára lelkipásztor, gyermekeik: Klára, Zsuzsanna és István mindhárman lelkipásztorok. Életének meghatározó vezérgondolata egykori kedves professzorának, Nagy Barnának jelmondata volt: Deus providebit, azaz Isten majd gondoskodik. Mi is ebben bízunk. Az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház közössége nevében, a feltámadás reménységében bízva, Isten gazdag vigasztalását kérjük a gyászoló család minden tagjára. A Nők Ökumenikus Világimanapja A Nők Ökumenikus Világimanapján - március 2-án Debrecen keresztyén asszonyai ezúttal a Mester utcai református templomban találkoztak, hogy a világ több százezer asszonyával együtt, közösen imádkozzanak. Március első péntekén napkeltétől napnyugtáig világszerte egyforma liturgia szerint imádkoztak felekezetre való tekintet nélkül a nők a békéért és a paraguayi asszonyokért. 1887-ben az Amerikai Egyesült Államokból indult a mára már egész világot átfogó mozgalom, amelyhez a Magyarországi Református Egyház több mint tíz éve csatlakozott. Százhetven ország keresztény asszonyai a közös imádság erejével küzdenek minden évben más-más ország népének a hitben és a nehézségek közötti megmaradásáért, a felemelkedéséért. A mozgalom célja: informáltan imádkozni - imádkozva cselekedni! A különböző tradíciókat és vallásokat összefűző Nők Ökumenikus Világimanapjának időpontja minden év márciusának első péntekje, amelyre az egységes istentiszteleti alkalom anyagát - ennek része az érintett ország bemutatkozása és az imanap témája - mindig más ország készíti elő.
