14. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ MEETING OF THE CENTRAL CLASSIS MAY 27, 2004 The Central Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America held its annual meeting at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Duquesne , Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 27, 2004. After the welcoming words of Rev. Frank Varga, Dean and the opening hymn Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta, pastor of the hosting congregation lead the participants in Worship service. Rev. György Nagy of Windsor, Ecclesiastical Secretary of the Classis presented minutes of the meeting held in 2003. At the beginning of his report, Dean Varga shared with the representatives of Classis that the Rt. Rev. Andor Demeter, Bishop in spite of his original plan and best intention, due to his manifold pastoral responsibilities is unable to be present and read his letter of warm and brotherly greetings asking God’s blessings upon the work of the Central Classis. There were some significant events and changes taking place in the Classis during the past year. Late in 2003 Rev. Zsolt Otvos, Pastor of the Toronto and Oshawa, Ontario announced his resignation and had his farewell service on the first Sunday of November. Both of the congregations formed Search Committees in order to find their future Pastor. The Rev. Pal A. Mezo was appointed as Interim Pastor for the two churches. The Hungarian Reformed Evangelical Church of Oshawa, Ontario held its annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday March 28. This date marks an extremely painful and sad day in the history of our Classis and Denomination as well. With all voting members of the church present at the meeting they decided to part company with the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the churches of Classis Central. The vote was unanimous. The Hungarian Reformed Evangelical Christian Church of Toronto, Ontario is approaching the end of the search process for their new pastor. Our congregations in Allen Park, MI, Duquesne and McKeesport, PA as well as Windsor, Ontario continue to be self-supporting and working faithfully. Their spiritual activities such as Sunday worship services are held on a regular basis and, the Sacraments are administered. Bible Study Hours, Sunday School and Confirmation Classes are held depending on the local circumstances or as needed. The preservation of our precious Hungarian heritage is still high priority. The various groups in the congregations organize events that provide cultural entertainment that promote our Hungarian traditions. In the afternoon session Rev. Dr. Daniel Borsay, pastor of the McKeesport congregation gave a presentation. In his Biblical teaching he talked to us about: “The Challenges of Christian Living” based on the Paul’s First Epistle to Timothy. The meeting of Classis Central was adjourned in a worshipful and prayerful spirit on the note of encouragement. Very Rev. Frank Varga, Dean TRENTON, NEW JERSEY 110 év ISTEN SZOLGÁLATÁBAN Nagy, s örömteli ünnepre gyülekeztek Isten kiválasztottál 2004. május 16-án. Egyházunk alapításának 110- ik, templomunk építésének 106-ik évfordulóját hirdette templomunk ősi harangja; és eljöttek közelből-messzeftíldről egyaránt az amerikai magyarság képviselői. Édes szülőhazánkat a New York-i Magyar Főkonzul, Dr. Horváth Gábor képviselte. Az ünnepség első aktusa illendően dicső múltunk felé irányult, mikoris újra felavattuk Egyházunk és a Trenton-i magyarság emlékeit őrző múzeumát. A múzeum Tűre István emlékét és fáradthatatlan szolgálatát hirdeti, amit Isten végtelen kegyelme révén azóta is folytat köztünk hitvese, szeretett Margitka nénink. így most ő tartotta az emlékezés szalagját előttünk, aminek elvágását követően a nemrég még igen csúnyán beázott és megrongálódott kiállítótermeket új tisztaságban és kibővült formájában láthatta a nagyszámú vendégsereg. Sok testvérünk dolgozott fáradtságot nem kímélve e nemes és gyönyörű munkán: legyen mindannyiójukon Isten gazdag áldása! A múzeum-Az ünneplő Trenton-i gyülekezet avatás után az egyre gyarapodó gyülekezet Isten házába ment hálát adni az O gazdag áldásaiért. Persze templomunk is megszépült e nagy alkalomra - hála legyen azon nagy templomfestő, javító és takarítómunkáknak, amiket oly lelkesen és szakszerűen végeztek a munkások, gondnokunk John Molnár és algondnokunk, Csapó Gábor irányítása alatt.
