MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 9. oldal can be addressed and settled within a short period of time. On the life of the Central Classis, we did not have any official report, since as indicated the Very Rev. Daniel Borsay Dean resigned and Mr. Zoltán Kun, due to his sickness, was unable to attend. Unofficially, the Rev. Joseph Posta reported on the official celebration of our denomination’s 75th anniversary in Duquesne, PA, last year and events occurring in the congregation. Mr. Zolten Ambrus, Secretary of the Synod was asked to report on the events taking place in our Allen Park, MI, congregation with the election of the new pastor, the Rev. Ferenc Varga. In behalf of the Western Classis, the Very Rev. Andor Demeter, Dean gave a comprehensive report on the life of the Classis. Each delegate received a printed report of their recently held Classis meeting in Vancouver, BC. He spoke of the ongoing difficulties in our Ontario, CA congregation and the changing pastorate in San Francisco. He also reported upon the retirement of Mrs. Katalin Nagy, lay preacher from our Houston and Dallas congregations, which also meant that services in these congregations have discontinued. He also spoke of the beautiful reception and commitment of the Vancouver congregation. He also stated that we must once and for all have to make our Bylaws and Constitution available in printed form to all our congregations. Upon the completion of the reports, Bishop Forro appointed the Recommendation Committee to meet and prepare their report. Following lunch, Mr. Stephen Szabó, Editor of the church publication, “Magyar Church” gave his report. He indicated that financially we do not receive enough donations from the congregations and expenses must be subsidized from our General Fund. On the next item of the agenda was the report of Miss Priscilla Hunyady as co-camp director of the Youth Camp. She reported that this year’s conference will be held from July 29 through august 4 in Laurelville, PA. The theme of the conference will be “Survivor - a Christian Experience.” Registration forms are available from our pastors. Miss Hunyadi encouraged all congregations to send young people to the camp. In behalf of the Ministerial Qualifying Committee, Rev. Barnabas Roczey reported on the installation and ordination of Rev. Csilla Lucskay- Spelda in Carteret, NJ, this past October. The Rev. Ambrus Batiz reported on our ecumenical relations. Other matters included discussions of the meeting of the Hungarian World Federations, the upcoming meeting of the Consultative Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Churches to be held in Hungary, as well as the Hungarian Reformed World Federation which organization also meets in Hungary. We also spent time on the developments of the Bethlen Nursing Home. At the conclusion, we returned to the report of the Recommendation Committee. Among the major recommendations, we would like to mention the printing of our Bylaws. A special committee was formed to prepare the text of the Bylaws for printing, which work should be completed by the end of the summer. The Committee also made recommendation toward the financial expenditures of the Synod, among them to give a $1,000.00 travel subsidy to our Bishop. A very substantive discussion was held on the cooperation of the two major Hungarian denominations, namely, the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod of the United Church of Christ. The Bishop’s Council encouraged the officers of our denomination to continue discussions on the manifold opportunities that are before us is working together for the good of our people as well as closer ties between the denominations. We also have discussed preparing a standardized form of worship of the Sacraments in our denomination. The Recommendation Committee will make available all resolutions to the member congregations in the form of a letter in the very near future. At the conclusion of the meeting, benediction was offered by Bishop Alexander Forro, and we said goodbye to each other in the hope that our meeting was not in vain and growing through each others faith we shall serve the people of God entrusted to our care in the precious example of our Lord.
