8. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 9. ) In this death struggle of events, I blame the “Vatra” and the “'Front” members in the parliament as the foremost agitants. The “Hargita-Kovászna” frontal leaders are waging a campaign of hatred the székely-magyars in Transylvania openly calling them “collective-criminals.” Throughout their exponents in the Bucharest Parliament these extremists maneuvered to demand a resolution to have me “court martialled” and expelled from the Nation as a “traitor.” The “Marosmegyei Frontal Organization” of these extremists conveyed against me and other magyar leaders of the district. 10. ) The anti-magyar campaign reached its peak when in the Romanian Parliament the ruling “Front of National Rescue” through its leader, Radu Ciontea (Vatra head), declared the former imprisoned-leaders as heroes of the Nation and named me together with the other Revolutionaries “traitors.” At that time in front of the whole Parliament, and through the T.V. stations the whole Nation, he dared to read Radu Tinu’s letter, who was the Securitate-Chief in Timosara in 1989 and who is still sitting in jail for murdering multitudes. The accused, still waiting to be convicted, accuses me in his letter by high-treason against the Romanian Nation in a desperate attempt to white-wash himself of the real crime. He was able to do the same to me from the prison what he did against me openly while he was the local Secret Police Chief under Ceausescu in Timosara in 1989. 11. ) The harassment has also been extended to the ecclesiastical sphere of my bishopric. The present political leaders and the agents of the present Secret Service continuously harass my clergymen and local congregations under my jurisdiction in Királyhágó by restricting them in carrying out their church-functions because of false informations coming from Secret Service channels. (For example: Bárót, Magyarremete, etc.) 12. ) In view of all the above, it is not at all surprising that right at the anniversary time of the Temesvár-Timosara Siege the majority of the criminally accused prisoners were released from the jail and set free; among them even Radu Tinu himself, the Securitate Chief. This turn of events created the most cynical possibility of a severe attack against my person. He was in supreme charge at that time of the attack against me, my family, and my church in Timosara. The same goes to all the hench-men under his command, now set free together with him. The murderers of the Timosara martyrs are either still functioning unharmed, or are now released from prison or will be shortly. It was — indeed — the most ridiculous aftermath of the glorious freedom-fight that on the Eve of the second anniversary (December 13, 1991), as a consequence of the mass release of the criminals, I was indicted to appear before the Military Court in Timosara for an investigative hearing. During the two years of the “Timosara Trial” before this time I was never once even called in to hear the testimony of the crown-witness and the number one victim of the “Timosara Trial.” 13. ) The most serious document concludes the long enumeration of facts after facts in the pronouncement of the death sentence by the so-called “Multi-Counties ‘Peoples’ Court” in November 1991. The accusation against me is slander and defamation of the Romanian Nation. The verdict took effect on December 31, 1991 and by their decision can be carried out by anyone at anyplace. The executioner’s reward is set at $150,000. It is very probable that the final alternative of this ultimate threat, the final conclusion of the “Tőkés Case,” might be my physical annihilation. Even yet if it would not be so predestined in the book of my life, the circumstances, the political atmosphere, with nationalistic inclinations might make it possible or probable. I do, therefore, have ample reason for a sound fear regarding myself, even the members of my immediate family. In a much wider base we have sufficient reason for fear regarding our entire and miserable social existence facing possible destruction; with a special accent on my own people here so tremendously alarmed and endangered by cruelly menacing forces. We have to defend ourselves! We have to acquire a clear vision, placing our trust in God, enforcing ourselves by our mutual Faith and uniting all of us in an unshakable alliance. Last but not least, we also have to implore begging for the perfect cooperation of our foreign-friends and democraticpartners to be our co-builders with us in a better future world. Signed: László Tőkés, Oradea, January 8, 1992 Bishop---------------» »»--------------------HUNGARIAN BIBLE FOUNDATION The Hungarian Bible Council was established in 1949 by the Reformed, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Adventist and Orthodox Churches of Hungary. It took over the work of publishing and distributing the Bible in Hungarian from the British and Foreign Bible Society. Interest in the Bible has of late increased enormously, and the demand has by far exceeded the productive capacity of the Bible Council. As the result of the recent historical changes the demand for Bibles by church people beyond the frontiers of the present Hungary must be satisfied to a great extent by the Bible Concuil. For this reason the Hungarian Bible Council, at their General Assembly on November 15, 1991, established the HUNGARIAN BIBLE FOUNDATION to support its increasing tasks. The aim of the Foundation is to serve the cause of the Hungarian Bible, especially through the care of the text of the Bible, its translation and the support of its publication, also to publish works to help Bible study; as well as to support the distribution of the Bible among Hungarians both within and outside the frontiers of Hungary. The appeal of the Bible Foundation was signed by the heads of the Churches of the Bible Council: Bishop Dr. Lóránt Hegedűs (Reformed), Bishop Dr. Béla Harmati (Evangelical Lutheran), Dr. János Viczián (Baptist), Dr. Jenő Szigeti (Seventh Day Adventist), Dr. Frigyes Hecker (Methodist), Dr. Feriz Berki (Orthodox Church). Donations to the Hungarian Bible Foundation should be sent to the Mission Fund of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, Ms. Priscilla Hunyady, Treasurer, 50 North Washington Ave., Colonia, NJ 07067. Donations are tax deductible. *
